Motorcycle Technician

Off Road Skills is a company providing training courses and adventure experiences to motorcyclist wanting to improve their motorcycling skills, and aspiring to travel and enjoying motorcycling even more. The workshop is the backbone of our company as we run a fleet of BMW GS motorcycles for the customers to enjoy on the various courses and adventures. As a technician at Off Road Skills you will join an experienced and motivated team of enthusiastic motorcyclists and the leading organisation in a growing and exciting industry. The work is varied, exciting and often challenging and very different to working in a franchise workshop. There will be times when lots of servicing and tyre changes are need and there will be times when you will need to think on your feet to get a bike working right now.

We are looking to hire a qualified Motorcycle Technician to help maintain and repair our fleet of current BMW GS motorcycles used on our training school. BMW experience is an advantage, however, not a requirement as further official BMW training will be available periodically. The workshop is a very busy and sometimes pressured environment, but also an exciting team with a very varied workload from servicing, repairs, innovating solutions, tyre changing, and diagnosing all aspects motorcycle mechanics.

Job Description

· Prioritising workload to meet deadlines.
· Supervising technical support staff.
· Servicing and maintaining bikes to a specified safety standard.
· Undertaking major repairs to motorcycles.
· PDI and 1st servicing
· Electronic parts ordering and manual stock control.
· Fault diagnosis utilising computer diagnostics or willingness to train.
· Undertake warrantable repairs, including processing paper trail and filing.
· Washing bikes.
· Maintaining and cleaning premises including toilets, kitchen and watershed.
· Responsible for keeping the workshop and storage areas clean and tidy.
· Cleaning / maintenance of work vans and trailers.
· Re-stocking bike spares in van (stock control).
· Adherence to company policies / safety legislation for handling and storage of hazardous substances.
· To undertake relevant training such as First Aid at Work and other BMW Training as appropriate.
· Driving van.
· Some unsociable hours required.
· Any other duties as required.

Person Specification

· Ability to work as part of a team.
· BMW trained motorcycle technician or an equivalent standard.
· Proven ability to work unsupervised and use one’s own initiative.
· Ability to problem solve.
· Flexible and Adaptable.
· Willingness to undertake all training requirements.
· Computer literate or willing to learn new platforms.
· Ability and willingness to represent Off Road Skills and BMW in a positive and professional manner, at all times.

Off Road Motorcycle Riding Instructor

Off Road Skills (ORS) are actively seeking expressions of interest for Intern Instructors. Off Road Skills forms part of the World of BMW group, providing off road motorcycle rider training and events in Wales and abroad. Off Road Skills has been partnering with BMW for 24 years to deliver world class coaching for newcomers to off road riding and experienced riders wanting to perfect their technique.
We are seeking the right candidates to join our Instructor Team in 2024.

Contract: Freelance
Hours: Casual (depends on your availability and how much you want to work)

Position description

As an Off Road Skills Instructor you will be working as part of a passionate team, sharing your love of motorcycling in order to deliver an established syllabus to a wide range of customers. An ORS instructor is more than a teacher, an ORS instructor is someone who cares about motivating people to enjoy all facets of their motorcycling experience.

You will be involved in all aspects of customer service and engagement, from welcoming customers on to the course and assisting them with their hire clothing, through to socialising and sharing a meal in the evening. Other duties include bike and equipment preparation, washing and maintenance (including hire gear), and supporting roles including driving the van and providing hospitality.

At all times you will be representative of BMW and ORS and will be showcasing BMW & ORS products.

Expectations

· Commit to an initial unpaid Intern Training Period comprising of a mix of online training, face to face office based training, and on the job experience
· Willing and able to travel to Swansea region regularly for training and work
· Willing and able to travel abroad for training courses and tours
· Willing to work weekends, bank holidays and unsociable hours
· Represent Off Road Skills and BMW in a positive and professional manner at all times
· Adhere to the company's Health and Safety Policy and any other legislation
· Yearly compulsory Instructor refresher training (unpaid)
· Commit to minimum of 8 training schools per year after qualifying as an instructor. Training schools generally run Fri/Sat and Sun/Mon each fortnight.

About you/Who we want

We are looking for applicants that possess a well-rounded teaching and riding background, who can demonstrate the necessary personal qualities that will make them a sympathetic and mature instructor. Above all else, the right candidate will:

Selection Criteria

The right candidate will have:

1. Teaching and/or coaching experience:
1. a. Prior teaching and/or coaching in motorcycling, or
2. b. Prior teaching and/or coaching in another subject in either a professional or hobby setting,
3. c. Prior experience training diverse groups including a variety of age, physical ability, skill level, cultures and gender.
2. Full driving licence
3. Full motorcycle licence
4. Current 'First Aid at Work', 'First Bike on Scene' or 'First Response Emergency Care' qualification or willingness to complete prior to training
5. Invested a substantial amount of time and effort into developing their own riding and be passionate about sharing this with others. Examples include:
1. a. Competing at a National or International Level in motorcycle competition
2. b. Extensive experience as an adventure rider
3. c. Further training in riding techniques
6. Be willing and able to undergo further training including in the first instance attending training programme dates.

Training process

If successful you may be required to complete online learning modules prior to face-to-face training.

Face to face and on-the-job training will be conducted over the following dates at our premises and training facility near Ystradgynlais, Wales:

· 18th-23rd September 2024 (unpaid - induction and suitability testing/second interview)
· 2nd-7th October 2024(trainee pay rate),
· 17th-21st October 2024(trainee pay rate).

Attendance at all training dates listed above is compulsory. Shared accommodation will be provided for training dates. On successful completion of this initial training program, the intern will commence on Intern Instructor rates of pay.
