From Wales to Mongolia - 14 August 2007 After completing the BMW Off-Road Skills Level One course in Wales in May this year, Steve Wadman and his friend Steve Mansfield headed off to Mongolia for a trip of a lifetime. Here is his story... "I travelled to Wales for a Level One Off Road Skills course on the 25-26 May this year in preparation for my trip to Mongolia where we were going to cover 2,500kms off road on an organised tour over a three-week period. My friend Steve Mansfield and I came on the course on Harley Davidsons – much to the amusement of the other course attendees and the instructors! "Anyway I am sending you a selection of my photos as requested by your team which covers Mongolia and when I went on to China afterwards. "The trip was awesome and Mongolia is the most amazing place. It is truly one of the last wilderness’ in the world. The people were very friendly, which is more than I can say for the Chinese! The sights and feel of the beautiful air and clear blue skies was something I will never forget. This was my first big adventure and I will be planning something again for 2008. "The motorcycling was just fantastic. The roads were dreadful and the tracks very challenging, especially on the occaissional wet day. "The bikes (Russian Planeta 350cc 2 strokes) were very uncomfortable and not very reliable. Although I have to say they did sterling service to get us around the country and spares were plentiful in the wilderness amongst the Nomadic people. "The Level One course was brilliant and I was very much better prepared than most of the other riders." Steve's trip was run by Saffron Road Motorcycle Tours. Visit www.saffronroad.com
