Pavey finishes inaugural Transorientale Rally - 30 June 2008 Hi all! Funny enough I am just finishing off the visit to China with a chinese meal in Beijing. The last day and function of the rally following the final special stage was a bit of an anti-climax really, but then they always are. We were packed into cattle trucks and shuttled for 30km to the Great Wall for a photograph and then that was it. |

Seventh heaven for Pavey - 27 June 2008 Hold on, I'll just put the beer down! It was the last real racing stage today and the end of the rally tomorrow is just a 30km run to the Great Wall for the podium, so we're having a few beers tonight. I had a mega awesome day. Our two fan mod has worked wonders and it was like being let off the leash. I'm so pleased to get seventh on the stage and I would have been sixth if I hadn't have had a minor fuelling problem which meant I had to siphon some fuel from my rear tanks to the front one. |

Second fan cools heated frustration for Pavey - 26 June 2008 Hi. Following a couple of frustrating days in the dunes with the bike overheating, Bernie and I came up with a fix last night. We took off the coolant overflow tank and replaced it with a fan. So the radiator now has two fans, one which is on all the time, the other that only cuts in when the engine temperature gets high, and what a difference. The bike is transformed, it doesn't overheat anymore, and it's gained an extra 5bhp! |

Pavey finishes a hot day in China - 25 June 2008 Sorry I'm checking in late but the phone signal isn't that consistent here. Not great today, it has been extremely frustrating. The bike's been overheating a lot and I just had to keep stopping to let the engine cool. |

Sand dunes and extreme heat, take its toll on Pavey - 23 June 2008 Not the best day today. It was a really long hard stage and it is absolutely stinking. The heat is real tough, it's so hot. There were a lot of riders suffering with the high temperatures; it was over 40 degrees. I was fine with it though, being from Oz I'd have to say that, but the bike suffered. |

Rest Day for Transorientale competitors - 22 June 2008 It's a rest day today so Bernie's been working on the bike and should have my bash plate repaired ready for tomorrow. The bike is holding up really well, which is good news because we're in for a tough, tough day tomorrow. We start dune busting in the morning, so the heat and navigation are going to be real hard. |

Pavey adjusts to conditions in China - 21 June 2008 Hi all. Yesterday was another strange day. We were up at the usual time and ready to go for 5am but we didn't get away until 8am as we got held by the organisers. The fuel trucks had got stopped and held at the Chinese border so we had to wait for them to get in. |

Pavey's Transorientale update - 18 June 2008 Hi! It was not a good night last night. We turned up at the bivouac late at night to find only two organisers there. No sleeping bags, no fuel, no information, nothing. I found out by text from some mates in the UK that there had been an accident and obviously all the organisers were sorting that out. |

Pavey steppes up - 17 June 2008 Today the riding is a real contrast from yesterday. It has just been flat-out with the throttle wide open! We're riding over the famous steppes. It's been 320km of vast open flat grassland. It's a bit unnerving as you just have the throttle wide open for ages. The grass is quite high so you can't really see the sandy soil beneath, so it's a bit of a an act of faith but you just keep it pinned - it has been pretty mad! |

Transorientale Rally update from Linley - 16 June 2008 Hi all, Linley here, Simon's gone to bed to prepare for another 5am start tomorrow. He had a good day today. He is really enjoying it. He had a huge smile on his face following the 124km special stage. It's seems that Si was a bit "geographically challenged" today and took the leaders on a 40k detour. He's denying it obviously, so I haven't heard the full story yet, but all the guys that followed him are having a laugh about it so it must be true! |

Stage 3 special abandoned due to bad weather - 13 June 2008 Well, I knew it was going to be a tough rally and I know it's Friday the 13th but I wasn't expecting bad luck this early on. It has really been one of those days. We kicked off at 5am again this morning from the tent city bivouac. It was made all the more pleasant by the peeing rain. |

Pavey 8th overall after first gruelling day of Transorientale It's been a long old day! We were up at 3.30am ready for an early start at 5.00 and I've just got off the bike at 5.30pm. Today was a total of over 500 miles, that's like riding from London to Aberdeen, which on a dirt bike ain't too comfortable. The road we've been riding is the main route between St Petersburg and Moscow. It's only a 2 lane road and Russia seems to have the most lorries in the world. |
