Off Road Skills Programme 2010

For 2010, in response to our customers’ comments, we have worked hard at developing the Off Road skills programme to create a more streamlined structure across the skills range. Level 1 is definitely the place for everyone to start, with all the fun and challenges of riding off-road presented in a structured course. There is now a smoother transition to Level 2 GS and Level 2 Enduro, the emphasis being on riding time and practicing new skill sets, finishing with a final challenge of your new-found skills in our trials section! Both Level 2 courses require similar technical ability, the difference is simply one of choice – your choice – Adventure or Enduro!

The key skills required to complete the trials section, are also the entry point for Level 3 GS and Level 3 Enduro – you will certainly enjoy the challenges of our new style Level 3. Whether riding GS or Enduro, each level will balance new skills and revision, with more trail time as your skills and fitness improve through the levels.

Our popular Day in the Dirt is back, a brilliant way to get time on the bike, honing your skills with the guidance of our ORS Instructors to ensure you gain the maximum enjoyment from your riding. We highly recommend this day to help your transition to the next Level.

Day in the Dirt

Our ‘Day in the Dirt’ has been developed and carefully planned out to ensure you get maximum riding time to hone those skills just learned on the Off Road School. It is also an excellent refresher before your next Off Road Skills course or trip!

Run on the Walters Arena, the ‘Day in the Dirt is based around graded runs, much like a Ski run system and is suitable for riders of all abilities. Organised in groups of riders of similar ability, you will be led by an instructor around the spectacular Off Road park, exploring some of the best off road riding available in the world!

We all know that practice is the key to improving your riding skills, so get yourself back into the groove prior to your next activity, and get in some practice in the company of the BMW Off Road Skills experienced team of instructors!

The Day is the ideal way to bring your riding on to new levels, and enjoy yourself whilst practicing!

Brecon Beacons Adventure

Escape your tiresome everyday routine and experience your first real off-road adventure right here in the UK. You don’t need to pack your bags for a week, endure vaccinations, apply for visas, learn a different language or even change your currency. All you need is an overnight bag and a motorcycle licence and your adventure can begin…

Simon Pavey and his Off Road Skills team run a special two-day riding experience suited to motorcyclists who have completed at least the Level One Advanced course. Starting at the Off Road Skills base in south Wales, your guide will lead the group along some of the most breathtaking roads and off-road trails Wales has to offer.

The tour route encompasses scenic twisty single tarmac roads, legal rights of way and private land. Participants will revel in riding the muddy lanes, stunning open moorland, tree filled forests and off-road trails that are guaranteed to see participants practice the skills learnt while completing the Off Road Skills Course, before reaching their overnight destination in Radnorshire.

After a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep, the group will then set off for the second day of riding, which will take them along a different route across the Black Mountains for their return journey to the Off Road Skills base.

Adventure Maintenance

The BMW Off Road Skills Adventure Maintenance course is designed for you to learn the basic skills and knowledge that will allow you to maintain your own bike when travelling. Our years of travel and racing experience will help you to understand what is and isn’t repairable in the field; allowing you to make decisions that should help keep you moving. We will also help you decide which tools and parts are practical and essential to carry.

Lessons and “hands on” practical sessions will give you real skills, so come along prepared to get your hands dirty. We will provide the bikes, tools and spare parts for you to practice on, so you don’t have to worry about scratching your own rims whilst learning to change tyres. These courses are ideal for anyone planning a trip.
